Carlo Acutis: Roadmap to Reality
A modern saint’s answer to a digital world
A Unique Film Collaboration
This inspiring documentary is a production of Castletown Media and Jim Wahlberg, in association with the National Eucharistic Congress and the McGrath Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame. Directed, produced and written by Tim Moriarty, founder of Castletown Media, the film explores the life of Blessed Carlo Acutis – the Catholic Church’s first millennial on the path to sainthood.
A Saint for the Digital Age
Carlo Acutis was an ordinary teenager with an extraordinary love for the Eucharist and a deep understanding of the power and pitfalls of technology. Rather than reject the modern world, Carlo embraced it thoughtfully, using digital tools to evangelize and share his love for Christ – while also setting personal limits to avoid the trap of constant virtual distraction. For Carlo, technology was a tool to serve God, not an end in itself.
The Eucharist: Anchoring in Reality
Central to Carlo’s life was his devotion to the Eucharist, which he called “my highway to heaven.” In contrast to the disconnection and superficiality often fostered online, the Eucharist gave Carlo a grounding, real, physical communion with Christ – something he believed was essential in today’s increasingly virtual world.
Personal Stories & Expert Insight
The film features intimate interviews with those who knew Carlo best: his parents, friends, and even his babysitter, sharing firsthand memories of his joyful, faith-filled life. It also includes commentary from Catholic leaders and technology experts, offering guidance for young people navigating the digital age.
Bridging Faith and Tech
Carlo Acutis: Roadmap to Reality dives into the Church’s rich tradition of engaging with new technologies, highlighting thinkers like Marshall McLuhan who explored how media shapes our humanity. The film challenges viewers to consider how we can use technology in service of truth, beauty and spiritual growth – just as Carlo did.
